Lugo Hotel Guide

Lugo is a city located in the northwest region of Spain. One fascinating feature about Lugo is the fact that it is the only city throughout the whole of Europe to be surrounded by Roman walls which are totally intact; they were built around the 3rd and 4th centuries. The walls span a range of a 2117m circuit and are ringed by 71 towers making for an exceedingly impressive sight. Visitors are invited to take a stroll along the top of the walls as they run in a continuous route therefore the whole circuit can be completed, there are ten gates along the walk to pass through.
The cathedral of Lugo is worth a visit as construction was started in the 12th century and the building incorporates a number of different styles including Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Neo-classicist. It is a Roman Catholic Church and is a vision of grandeur and beauty.
The city is surrounded by beautifully picturesque scenery which looks as though it has been lifted straight from a postcard. There are green hills filled with glorious patchworks of fields with babbling streams meandering through them.
Lugo boasts a variety of fine restaurants where fish, especially shellfish, is a firm favourite. The city has numerous shops and many sandy beaches to explore; the advantage with Lugo is that parts of it are virtually unexplored by tourists.
